Mum knocked down and killed by man with undeclared eye condition
THE daughter of a woman who was hit by a rogue driver in Southport has appeared on national TV, calling for major changes to road safety laws.
Lifelong friends Marie Cunningham, 79, and Grace Foulds, 85, were struck down and killed by driver Glyn Jones on Lulworth Road in Southport in November 2021.
Jones, 67, had been told more than 10 years earlier that he had a degenerative eye condition which meant that his vision was “well below the standard required” to be driving.
He admitted two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, and was jailed for seven years and four months in January last year.
An inquest earlier this year, investigating the deaths of Ms Cunningham, Ms Foulds and two other pedestrians, found “life-threatening gaps in the system” which allowed unsafe drivers to remain on the roads - even after being told by doctors to give up their licences.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Grace Foulds' daughter Sue Rimaitis told presenter Adil Ray: “What we need is change.
