Stars of future head to Ffos Las

FFOS Las breaks new ground tomorrow as it plays host to some of the stars of the future.

The Carmarthenshire course is staging its first schooling morning, which gives promising up-and-coming horses valuable experience on a racecourse setting.

There will be no actual races as such, but the horses who take part will get to learn what an actual race-day is all about.

Schooling days are hugely popular in Ireland where they are seen as crucial to a horse's development.

But they are relatively new in Britain. Worcester has held a couple, and now Ffos Las follows suit.

Around 80 horses are due to head to West Wales. Some of Britain’s top trainers are planning to send a number of their best youngsters, with many Welsh yards also keen to lend their support to the new venture.

“It’s our first ever schooling day and we are very excited by it,’ said Ffos Las general manager Kevin Hire.

“Trainers will be able to use the course from 8am to midday. We've had a fantastic response to it and so far we have 81 horses set to arrive.

“These are going to be the stars of the future.
