Scarlets target O'Carroll as new defence coach

THE Scarlets are lining up a move for St Helens defence coach Eamon O’Carroll.

Love Rugby League reported O’Carroll was on the verge of leaving St Helens for the Scarlets and we understand a move is close to completion.

O'Carroll would replace outgoing defence coach Jared Payne as interim director of rugby Nigel Davies looks to freshen up his coaching team ahead of the 2026/27 season.

We understand Davies will stay on as director of rugby for another season having been appointed on an interim basis in January to sit above head coach Dwayne Peel after a poor run of form.

Davies has been tasked with creating a plan to get the Scarlets back on track, with O’Carroll the primary target as defence coach with Peel in charge of attack alongside a new forwards coach.

Although O'Carroll is the primary target, the deal has not yet been completed.
