Plaid win by-election to hold off Reform UK

PLAID Cymru’s celebrations are continuing after a historic election win in Caerphilly.

After an event outside Caerphilly castle yesterday morning, leader Rhun ap Iorwerth and newly-elected Senedd member Lindsay Whittle headed for the Senedd where he was sworn in.
Mr Whittle was announced as the new Senedd member at 2.14am yesterday in Caerphilly Leisure Centre after the votes were counted overnight in the by-election held after the death of Hefin David, a Labour Senedd member, in August.
Celebrating the victory, Plaid Cymru’s leader, Mr ap Iorwerth, said the result marked a huge “reset” in Welsh politics.
It is the first time Labour has failed to win the Caerphilly seat in a Westminster or Senedd election for more than a century.
The ruling party's candidate Richard Tunnicliffe came a distant third place.
