It's not unusual... for a museum mammoth to be called Tom Bones!
South Wales Echo
|November 25, 2025
IT'S not unusual to visit a museum and find yourself standing in the middle of the main hall wanting to take a photo with a prehistoric creature.
-
For the last eight months thousands of people have done exactly that at the National Museum Cardiff.
Now the huge 3D printed mammoth has been named - Tom Bones - after singer, Sir Tom Jones.
Woolly mammoths, like the one Tom is based on, once lived and grazed the green green grass of home just across the border in Shropshire.
During the naming process, the museum received more than 1,400 suggestions.
