Clark Cross suggests adding a 20 per cent carbon tax to tickets for music and sporting events, 'Why not a green tax on events', letters January 2.

Well, it's good for winding people up, but is this a logical approach to reducing carbon emissions? We can do much better.

It's far more rational to look more specifically at what produces the greenhouse gas emissions - the fossil fuels used at the sites and for transporting participants and attendees.
