Superfit Olympians could face higher health risks in later life

TEAM GB heroes may be facing a deadly health crisis, after scientists found Olympians have higher rates of skin cancer and osteoarthritis.

Keele University investigated the prevalence of a range of health conditions among former elite sports stars, using data from 403 retired GB Olympians. Compared to the UK population as a whole, the athletes were more likely to report skin cancer, particularly those who competed in outdoor disciplines. The sports stars were also more at risk of developing osteoarthritis, which causes inflammation and pain within the joints.
