SNP 'VISITOR LEVY' WILL MAKE SCOTLAND LESS ATTRACTIVE AND HAMMER BUSINESSES

AS we go into the tourist season, crucial to the economy of so many parts of Scotland, the SNP government has been given a dire warning from almost 80 organisations in the sector about the impact of the 'visitor levy'.

Edinburgh, which was recently named as the most expensive city in Europe for a short break, is already planning to bring one in from July 2026 - adding five per cent to the cost of overnight stays — and other councils are likely to follow.

In theory, it would help pay for things that largely benefit visitors and reduce the burden on local residents' council tax.
