Snow place like home

AN Arctic blast brought chaos to Scotland's roads and schools yesterday - ahead of a bone-chilling -10C (14F) being predicted tonight.

Most of the north of the country was under a 51-hour Met Office warning for snow and ice, which remains in place until this evening.

Yesterday, more than a quarter of schools on Shetland were closed as the Northern Isles were hit by heavy snow.

Eighteen schools in Aberdeenshire and 20 in the Highland Council area were also shut.

Tonight sees the arrival of the lowest temperatures of the season so far.
