Relief for voters as by-election party rancour moves on

VOTERS in Gorton and Denton can breathe a sigh of relief today after one of the nastiest by-election battles in living memory came to an end.

Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham joins Labour hopeful Angeliki Stogia in Gorton and Denton.

Party leaders including Sir Keir Starmer and Nigel Farage will this morning be poring over the result in the Greater Manchester seat, where voting ended at 10pm and counting continued into the early hours.

It follows a campaign, widely seen as a three-horse race between Labour, Reform UK and the Greens, that surprised even veteran politicians with its bitterness and ferocity.
