Rare sight of orcas in UK waters

Skipper spots pod of eight

A RARE sighting of a pod of killer whales off the UK left sailors stunned.

Andrew Douglas said he was “overwhelmed” by spotting the eight orcas breaching just five miles from the Northumberland coast, near his boat.

The tour guide and his crew have sailed around the Farne Islands for 30 years. He has previously encountered dolphins, seals, minke whales and fin whales on their trips - but says that to see a large group of killer whales is “really rare”.
