Museum chiefs are mocked for gender ruling 'closure' fear

MUSEUM chiefs in Scotland have been accused of “trying to pander to gender extremists” after an astonishing claim that venues could be forced to close if they are forced to adhere to a UK Supreme Court ruling.

It comes after an SNP quango claimed that publicly-funded museums would be under threat if they have to ban men from women’s facilities.

Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) published its response to the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s (EHRC) guidance following the court ‘s decison.

As well suggesting potential closures they also cited that it would lead to everyone entering the toilets having to have their gender checked something which would put “undue pressure on them”.

Last night, critics were aghast at MSG’s stance.

Leading the criticism were the Scottish Conservative.

The party’s equalities spokeswoman Tess White MSP said: “Museums Scotland seem to be following the Scottish Government in their mistaken bid to avoid implementing the Supreme Court’s verdict.

“The judgment from the UK’s highest court was crystal clear.”

She added: “By criticising the EHRC’s guidance, Museums Scotland are flouting the law, putting women and girls in danger and laying themselves open to legal challenge.

“There is no excuse for evasion on this issue.
