LEVER pair that they are, presenters Fi and Phil are giving themselves double the chance of striking it lucky on this week’s FAKE OR FORTUNE (BBC1, 9pm).

Rather than just investigate a single painting, as they do in a typical episode, looking for proof that the work was painted by the person its owner hopes it was painted by, and thus worth at least enough to pay for a nice new house – or, in central London, a garage - they’re breaking with tradition and investigating two.

Both are by the great French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir, creator of such marvellous works as Bal Du Moulin De La Galette (1876) and Le Déjeuner Des Canotiers (1881) (trust me, you'll know them if you see them).

Or possibly neither of them is.

Or maybe one of them is and one of them isn't.

Or the other way around.

You get the point I’m making.
