Gers stars showed class for countries

- By Gavin Berry

RUSSELL MARTIN has had plenty to get excited about watching his Rangers players during the international break.

From Thelo Aasgaard’s astonishing four-goal show from the bench for Norway in their 11-1 World Cup qualifying victory against Moldova to the exquisite free-kick winner from new signing Derek Cornelius for Canada against Wales in their friendly in Swansea.

There were also a couple of clean sheets from John Souttar as Scotland made a solid start to their bid to reach next summer’s tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico while Nico Raskin offered a reminder to Martin of what he can do amid the pair’s fallout.

After a woeful start to their Premiership campaign, Rangers fans fear the buzz of their stars performing for their countries will be killed when they return to domestic duty against Hearts at Ibrox tomorrow.

But what this week has proved is that manager Martin has plenty of quality at his disposal and he needs to find a way to maximise it after four league games without a win.

Assault on any Jew here is no less than an attack on Britain

AS A writer and broadcaster, I'm rarely speechless. But the events of recent weeks, from the Manchester synagogue attacks to the reactions of hateful yobs masquerading as champions of the Palestinian cause, have left me stunned. And on the second anniversary of the October 7 attacks, I've reached a sobering conclusion: I no longer recognise this country.
