Pumas defeat was a big setback

- BY GRAEME MACPHERSON

UNDER-FIRE Gregor Townsend admits the blame for the latest Scotland setback should lie with him and not the players.

The Scots allowed Argentina to score five tries in the last 20 minutes to wipe out their 21-0 lead.

That collapse saw the team booed off at full-time, with many fans now calling for the head coach to go.

Former Scotland forward Peter Wright also reckons it’s time for change and wants Glasgow's Franco Smith to take Townsend's place.

The head coach - under contract until the 2027 World Cup - admits the fans were right to show their frustration on top of last week's defeat to the All Blacks.

And he says the finger of blame should point at him first, rather than his players.

He said: “Are the players letting me down in the big moments? Not at all. We're very much together and I'm looking at myself first.

“I could have done things differently during the week and I could have changed things during the game.
