Steyn's glad of backing after Kiwis defeat

KYLE STEYN says having his family in the stands helped ease his All Blacks suffering.

The Scotland winger's parents rushed to book flights for the 12,000-mile round journey from their South African home once they heard he had made the team.

Dad Rory - Nelson Mandela's former bodyguard - and Glaswegian mum Gillian barely spent 24 hours in Scotland after making the late arrangements.

But Steyn was grateful they had put in such an effort to support him after Saturday's 25-17 defeat at Murrayfield.

He said: “My parents landed in Scotland at 11.30am on Saturday and then flew home at 12.30 on Sunday so they could get back to work.

“It wasn't a pre-planned thing. I heard on Tuesday I'd been picked and gave them the call, and they scrambled!

“Dad conjured up some sort of work trip and then mum decided to jump on the bandwagon later in the week.
