Historic King's speech to mark 80 years of VJ day

KING Charles will make a historic address on the 80th anniversary of the Allied victory over Japan and the end of the Second World War.

In a VJ Day speech, he will echo the words of his grandfather King George VI who paid tribute on August 15, 1945, to the British soldiers who died for our freedom.

Sacrifice

Charles, 76, will give an audio address next Friday. Sources say the King, keen to recognise the “duty and sacrifice of our greatest generation”, penned the statement himself.

In May he led the nation for VE Day commemorations, marking 80 years since the Allies' victory over Nazi Germany.
