'Go and do it, your grandad would be proud'...Hirst reveals family backing over Scots call

GEORGE HIRST insists his Scotland call-up is a dream come true - and he has the full backing of his former England striker dad.

The Ipswich Town forward was called into Steve Clarke’s squad after being convinced by the head coach to switch allegiance from the Three Lions.

Hirst’s dad David, a Sheffield Wednesday legend, was capped three times by England, but the 26-year-old insists there was no hesitation when the call came from Clarke - and his old man is fully on board with his decision.

Ahead of tomorrow’s first leg of the Nations League play-off with Greece, he said: “It’s a dream come true. A chance to play international football. My grandad was Scottish so it’s an opportunity to make him proud.
