Eugenie: Mum Fergie was amazing after my spinal surgery

PRINCESS Eugenie has told of her childhood spinal surgery, describing her mother as "amazing" during the recovery.

Eugenie, the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, was diagnosed with scoliosis, where the spine curves to the side, when she was 12. Doctors inserted eight-inch titanium rods into each side of her spine as well as screws at the top of her neck.

She spent three days in intensive care and a week on a general ward, followed by six days in a wheelchair, and could not do anything for herself.

The Princess said that, after the eight-hour operation at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in north-west London, she felt "embarrassed" by her condition.
