DUNDEE NEEDS DERBY BUT JIM EYES GOOD WIN

DUNDEE UNITED boss Jim Goodwin is desperate for derby glory on Sunday, but hopes Dundee ultimately go on to secure their Premiership safety.

Goodwin’s Euro-chasing United side entertain their relegation-threatened rivals at Tannadice at the weekend.

The Irishman reckons the Dundee derby is one of the showcase games of the season and without it the Premiership would be a far poorer place.

“I wouldn’t sit here and say that I want Tony (Docherty, Dundee boss) and his team to go down because I don’t think it’s a positive thing for the league,” said the United gaffer.

“I don’t think it’s a good thing for the city either.

“I think most supporters, as much as they enjoy seeing the other team not doing particularly well, I’m pretty sure most fans would want that Dundee derby to be in the top flight again next season.

“I think it’s important for the league in general to have the big clubs in the top flight.
