Chief prosecutor 'frustrated' by spy case failure

THE country’s top prosecutor admitted he was “disappointed and frustrated” the China spy case collapsed because Labour would not call China an enemy.

Director of Public Prosecutions Stephen Parkinson told a parliamentary committee that the Government could have provided evidence that Beijing was an active threat “fairly easily”.

The failure to do so was fatal to the case against Christopher Berry and Christopher Cash, who denied any wrongdoing after being accused of collecting insider information about government policy, and passing it to a Chinese intelligence agent.
