Bram after the storm as clean-up begins

A MAJOR cleanup operation was under way yesterday after Storm Bram brought chaos to Scotland.

Winds of 76mph were recorded on South Uist in the Western Isles, as well as on the hills of South Lanarkshire and Kirkcudbrightshire.

The M74 between Scotland and England was closed for hours overnight after several lorries overturned in gale-force blasts. Motorist Andy Paterson told BBC Scotland he saw at least 10 HGVs “scattered like ninepins” near Abington Services in Lanarkshire. He said: “It was like something out of a zombie movie.”
