'BBC needs to grovel to Trump over edit'

THE BBC should “grovel” to Donald Trump over the Panorama scandal, Tories said yesterday.

The US President has threatened a billion-dollar legal action over the furore, which has sparked the resignation of two senior bosses.

They quit over concerns the broadcaster had edited a speech to make it appear that Mr Trump encouraged the US Capitol riots in 2021.

Shadow Culture Secretary Nigel Huddleston said: “If you look at the complaint he’s got - the Panorama programme ~ he probably has legitimate claims to say, ‘look, this was wrong and definitely requires and demands an apology’.

“So I would advise the BBC to grovel here. They need to make sure that they communicate very clearly that they got this wrong and that they apologise.

TAKE A RUNNING SLUMP

Take your pick of the athletic turns of phrase that suggest a disappointing outcome - run out of steam, run aground, run on empty, run dry, run out of luck - any of them could apply to director Edgar Wright's high-octane adaptation of Stephen King's 1985 dystopian thriller.
