LIAM McCONNELL can't wait to get tucked into the Americans - after learning about his first Scotland call-up over dinner.

The back-rower is in the running to make his international debut on Saturday after starring for Edinburgh this season.

The 21-year-old admits he was starting to give up hope when he hadn't heard from Gregor Townsend and some of his teammates had.

But he revealed the good news finally came just as he and his partner were out for a meal.

He said: “I left training that day about half four and my mate Paddy Harrison had already found out that he was in the squad. So, I knew the boys were hearing.
