4,000 houses still cut off three days after storm strikes

STORM Floris is continuing to impact thousands of Scots three days after the weather front left the country.

The near-90mph winds caused travel chaos and major power disruptions, especially in the north.

As of yesterday, about 4,000 homes remained without electricity.

However, energy suppliers said they were working as hard as they could to solve any problems.

A spokesman for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said it had restored supplies to more than 68,000 homes.

The company, which delivers electricity in the north of Scotland, described Floris as “the most damaging summer storm in recent memory”.

More than 500 of SSEN’s engineers and field staff were deployed, including teams from SSEN’s south of England network region.

They are being assisted by about 200 people from contract partners and other network operators.
