Philadelphia ranked third in nation for Public Health-Centered Violence Prevention approaches in 2024

The City of Philadelphia proudly announced the results of the 2024 Community Justice Violence Prevention Index (VPI) Report, in which it ranked third among 100 U.S. cities with the highest incidents of gun violence.

The city received this recognition for its innovative, public health-centered approaches to addressing the issue. Philadelphia is also one of only eight cities in the U.S. to have established a dedicated local office for violence prevention, an initiative led by Mayor Cherelle L. Parker's vision for public safety.
The Community Justice VPI Report is the only annual report that evaluates how prepared U.S. cities with high incidents of gun violence are to respond to this issue. The VPI assesses the availability of public health-centered approaches designed to prevent and intervene in gun violence, aiming to reform and eliminate its root causes while expanding community capacity to address this crisis. After reviewing Philadelphia's relevant programs and initiatives, the city ranked third among the 100 U.S. cities evaluated.
