Cup win gives Wids respite from league

WIDNES left behind their league woes with a convincing Cheshire Cup victory over Sale, winning by seven wickets.

Having put the opposition into bat first, Widnes had early success, with Tashaun Leacock snapping up three wickets leaving Sale struggling at 3 for 14.

Cam Kwok staged a recovery, with 42 but wickets continued to fall at the other end. Rohan Luthra picked up two wickets and Aaron Soni captured the vital wicket of Tyronne Lawrence for 22.

Aaqib Uppal, Trent McKeegan and Praharsh Parikh quickly mopped up the tail leaving Sale all out for 117.

Widnes opened with Luthra and Soni. Steady progress was made before Luthra was dismissed for 26.

Incoming batter Luke McCoy picked up the pace and quickly surpassed Soni, who was struggling.
