KZN Disability Council and Social Development join forces to combat substance abuse

THE newly-elected KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Disability Council and Department of Social Development (DSD) have formed a strategic partnership to address pressing challenges facing people with disabilities, including the rising concern of substance abuse within the community.

Last week, KZN Social Development MEC Mbali Shinga and disability council chairperson Sindy Cebisa committed to a renewed partnership tackling accessibility barriers and substance abuse affecting people with disabilities.

The initiative seeks to unite stakeholders in creating comprehensive support systems throughout KZN.

During the engagement, the council outlined priority issues affecting people with disabilities across KZN, including accessibility barriers, socioeconomic marginalisation, limited access to assistive devices, and the need for strengthened community-based support services.
