Isipingo taxi owner shot dead in 'industry rivalry'

THE family of Krish Pillay, a 62-year-old taxi owner from Isipingo, believes his recent murder is linked to rivalry in the taxi industry.

Pillay, the owner of Mastermind Taxis, was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting near his home last Wednesday. The suspects opened fire on his vehicle when he stopped at an intersection in Isipingo Hills before 10am. He was declared dead at the scene.

Aiden David, a community leader in Isipingo, was one of the first people at the scene.

He said Pillay was shot at by two gunmen who were travelling in a vehicle behind him.

After he was shot, Pillay crashed his vehicle into a wall.

“His vehicle was sprayed with bullets from both sides. Police found 25 AK47 bullet shells at the scene. It was a gruesome sight. We hope that witnesses or anyone with information contacts the police so arrests can be made."

Pillay's daughter, Sharlet Singh, said her mom heard the gunshots from their home.
