1 AM A 76-year-old avid cyclist, and on May 27 this year I experienced what I can only describe as a face-to-face encounter with a biblical good Samaritan.
Some 800m after starting out on my ride from Virginia, Durban North, I found myself entangled in chaotic traffic as a result of the major road accident on the M4.
I made my way gingerly towards the Virginia circle by frequently dismounting and mounting my bicycle.
In the process, unbeknown to me, my cellphone, which I carry in my back cycling shirt pocket, fell out.
My minute-by-minute progress continued for some 35 minutes before I could pedal freely. I only discovered my loss once I had reached home some 90 minutes later.
