Cultivating egos or creative public recognition

THERE is a growing trend of establishing nonprofit organisations with the aim to utilise these organisations as vehicles to uplift society.

What is notably sad is these NPOs have become a modus operandi for directors to use these platforms to boost their public image and get drunk on popularity. These directors maintain active campaigns with the use of photography, especially of faces of recipients in destitute on various social media platforms, bringing humiliation to recipients who trade their dignity for a grocery hamper or a meal.

While the directors are elevated and reap the glory of recognition, humiliation is the price the recipient pays.

NPOs now position themselves as authority bodies to recognise members of the public who have made a valuable contribution to society. While the need is necessary, we also witness a mockery developing with NPO organisers and recipients, each in their own drastic search for public recognition, participate in these award ceremonies.
