As the summer Portsmouth & District Tennis League season came to its climax, several teams fell at the final hurdle.
In the tight Ladies' Division 1, Ryde Lawn 1sts knew two away wins would give them second place.
However, they lost the closing rubbers at CourtX 1sts in a 3-1 defeat that condemned them to return to Division 2 next summer.
And then Lee 1sts whitewashed them 4-0 the next day to take second place from CourtX.
