Speaker's luxury car raises concern

The DA in the Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) has raised concern regarding the municipality's intention to lease a category one luxury vehicle for the speaker of council, Kholefelo Lehong, claiming that it is in contravention of National Treasury's municipal cost containment regulations as well as CDM's own cost containment policy.

The speaker's official vehicle is currently under repair, and the municipality's insurer has already provided a category B sedan as a temporary replacement.

Despite this, a report before council recommended leasing a category one luxury vehicle - an unnecessary and unjustifiable expenditure, according to the DA.

"During the recent council meeting, the DA opposed this proposal, however, the ANC railroaded the item through council, displaying a reckless disregard for fiscal discipline and the rule of law," the DA stated in a media release.
