Get your goods delivered safely

Since the post-lockdown surge in online shopping, South Africa has seen a significant increase in motorcycles on the road - many of them used for deliveries. But as e-commerce thrives, the safety of the delivery riders often takes a back seat.
According to the Motorcycle Safety Institute of South Africa, delivery riders remain one of the most vulnerable groups on South African roads. Hein Jonker, founder and chief instructor, warns that this growing sector needs urgent attention.
"It's often said that a delivery rider is handed a helmet, bike keys, and a few directions before being sent on their way. In some cases, that's exactly how it happens, and it's a major concern," he said.
Many delivery riders are sent out with only a learner's licence, or sometimes without any licence at all. They often lack proper training, and the riding gear provided is minimal, usually just a basic R500-R600 helmet, and perhaps a hi-vis vest or rain suit.
