Principals gather to plot the future

Principals of Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDs) in Athlone and Lansdowne attended a three-day workshop from Tuesday 8 April to Thursday 10 April at Grassroots Educare in Klipfontein Road in Athlone on how to use recycled goods to do creative art in all learning areas in the classroom.
After completing the programme the ECD principals had to go back to their ECDs to train their staff and implement what they've learnt.
Deyana Thomas, executive director and trainer from the NPO Community Development Programme (CDP) in Johannesburg, funded by Jim Joel Foundation, facilitated the workshop.
“With the decline of the SA economy, ECD centres are finding it increasingly challenging to survive and sustain themselves, let alone purchasing learning and teaching resources. This results in a lack of resources to stimulate the young children in their care. CDP developed a programme to train ECD workers, including ECD trainers, to make creative, innovative and durable learning and teaching resources covering all the learning areas in early education,” she says.
