Decision slammed as letting down residents of Dargavel

Sparks over council's substation approval

The recommendation to approve a large substation in Dargavel Village is “yet another example of residents being let down by Renfrewshire Council”, it has been claimed.

The local authority has reaffirmed its decision to recommend the proposed four-metre tall substation, situated off Glenluce Drive, be granted planning permission.

A report-to be considered by councillors at the planning board on Tuesday - states the 37 concerns raised by more than 120 people do not justify the application being thrown out.

The application seeks permission to build the substation, associated apparatus, fencing, de-mountable floodlights and access track 60 metres from homes on Abington Circle.

The applicant, Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN), argues the substation is needed to power the additional homes still to be built within the development, as well as the new primary school.
