Local pitches favour synthetic over grass

Council study sees changing trend across Renfrewshire

Renfrewshire Council has said a review of sports pitches across the local authority indicates a “transition” from grass to synthetic surfaces is taking place.

An exercise counted a total of 70 pitches in the area - 54 per cent grass and 46 per cent artificial - which are managed by OneRen, schools and private providers.

The analysis found grass pitch use to be “very low” and averaging seven per cent at peak times, while synthetic pitch use was recorded at 79 per cent at peak times.
