Kerr aims to savour victory over Steelmen

Ready St Mirren assistant manager Brian Kerr

The St Mirren assistant manager patrolled the midfield for the North Lanarkshire outfit for three seasons between 2004 and 2007.

In February 2006, the Fir Park men reached the last four of the League Cup and faced Old Firm giants Celtic at the national stadium.

Richie Foran fired 'Well into a shock lead but Maciej Zurawski equalised before Shaun Maloney sealed a late 2-1 win for the Hoops.

Kerr will be alongside boss Stephen Robinson in the dugout as the Buddies take on Jens Berthel Askou’s new-look’ Well.

And he knows the importance of the game cannot be overlooked with both teams eyeing a return trip to Hampden in next month’s final.

“It was very good up until the winning goal,” recalled the 44-year-old on that 2006 tussle.“I felt like we deserved to get something in that game.

“The experience was incredible. I know it will be slightly different because when you go and play against Celtic or Rangers at Hampden, it's pretty full.

“It will be a wee bit different with it may be not being so full.

“But it's two sets of supporters and two teams desperate to get to a final so I'm sure it will be a good occasion.
