Main anchor man to step down
Legendary broadcast journalist John MacKay is stepping down as an STV presenter.
The much-loved figure, who was brought up in Hillington and lives in Renfrewshire, has spent more than three decades bringing the news to people’s homes across Scotland.
He will be leaving in March next year.
Having started out as a journalist at The Sunday Post in 1986, he soon joined BBC Scotland after becoming a news trainee before moving up the ranks in Radio Scotland.
His move to STV, then Scottish Television, materialised in 1994 when he joined as a reporter and presenter for the regional news programme Scotland Today.
He went on to become a main anchor four years later, alongside Shereen Nanjiani.
