Investment is key to drop in pothole reports

Pothole reports in East Renfrewshire have dropped significantly over the past six years, council figures show.

The number of 'pothole instructions' received by East Renfrewshire Council in 2019/20 hit 6,320. But in 2024/25, they had more than halved with 2,762 reports.

An extra £15 million was invested in the area's road network over five years from 2019/20-and that has been extended to £17.5m for a further five years.

The figures, compiled by the council, cover reports from both the public and road inspectors.

They were first raised in response to a question from council leader Owen O'Donnell at a recent cabinet meeting.

The Labour politician asked how additional funding invested in road repairs had “impact pothole maintenance on an ongoing basis”.
