Food bank is in 'dire' need of donations

The shelves at Renfrewshire Foodbank are almost completely bare four weeks before Christmas - a situation described as “dire” by food bank bosses.

The food bank, which provides an emergency three-day food parcel to people in financial crisis, says it has never experienced so little stock and such high demand.

Crystal Clayton, who manages the lifeline charity, says it is in desperate need of donations as it seeks to support people at what is one of the most financially difficult times of the year.

Explaining the Renfrewshire distribution sites are on track to deliver more food parcels in 2025 then ever before, she said the cost-of-living crisis is not only bringing more people to the door, it is also resulting in fewer donations.

"The shelves are pretty empty, and again, we're having to purchase more food now than ever, just to sustain the amount of parcels that we're giving out on a weekly basis," she said.

"I've never seen the stock four weeks to Christmas this low, ever, in all my time at the food bank, it's becoming a real issue.
