An extra £585,000 could be set aside as part of efforts to tackle poverty and inequality amid the cost-of-living crisis... if the step is agreed by Renfrewshire councillors.

Cash boost pending to deal with poverty

The significant sum would be added to the £450,000 already allocated to the Fairer Renfrewshire war chest for 2025/26 during the council's budget-setting process at the end of February.

But the move will need to be approved at the leadership board on Wednesday as elected members prepare to discuss how they can support those who are struggling in a difficult financial climate.

Depute council leader Jacqueline Cameron, an SNP representative for Johnstone South and Elderslie, said: "If or when agreed at the board next week, this funding will allow us to continue the really important work of the Fairer Renfrewshire programme.
