Band impressed on world stage

Last week I had the pleasure to welcome the Renfrewshire Schools Pipe Band to Holyrood.

- BY RENFREWSHIRE SOUTH MSP TOM ARTHUR

Band impressed on world stage

I had extended the invitation to them to come along after they represented Renfrewshire with distinction at New York's Tartan Day celebrations, and to showcase their talent.

Despite the drizzle, they quickly drew a large crowd of onlookers with a fantastic performance in the parliament's grounds before joining me for a Q&A session inside.

Afterwards, the band visited the public gallery to see parliament in action, a great opportunity to get a sense of how our national democracy works.

These are incredibly talented young people, drawn from schools right across Renfrewshire but who come together to practice at Johnstone High.

They should all be very proud of their efforts and the way they continue to represent the area with such skill and enthusiasm.
