Braehead Arena has made a move to put artists first and to support grassroots musicians and venues.

- EMYLIE HOWIE

The Renfrewshire arena has become the largest venue in the UK to drop all fees on merchandise sold by artists at their shows.

It means artists who see Braehead as the bridge between theatres and large arenas like the OVO Hydro-will not be charged 25 per cent commission on all goods sold at gigs.

And to support musicians at the very start of their career, the arena will also be adding an optional £1 donation to every ticket sold to support grassroots music through the Live Trust.

The changes have been introduced as part of efforts to develop a music programme for 2026, work being done in partnership with Ghostwriter Consultancy & Events.

Russ Smith, CEO of Braehead Arena, told the Express: “Braehead Arena is the perfect venue for artists on their way to the very top of the game - with a capacity of 5,300 we are a vital bridge from theatre scale to the biggest arenas and stadiums.
