DISMAL CONVICTION RATE WORRIES DGP

Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania Tuesday expressed concern over the poor conviction rate in crimes against women in Odisha and asked police officers to expedite investigations, improve evidence handling and treat victims with empathy.

The DGP said this during a workshop on women and child safety organised at Police Bhawan here. The workshop aimed at enhancing police responsiveness, improving investigation techniques, and ensuring justice for victims of gender-based crimes.

Khurania, who inaugurated the workshop, said protecting women and girls is the topmost priority of the police force. He underlined that women’s participation will be vital in realising the vision of a ‘Developed Odisha’ by 2036.

“We're committed to transforming Odisha into a model state in terms of women’s safety,” the DGP stated, urging officers to work in unison towards this goal.

The highlight of the event was the felicitation of police personnel from 13 districts who played leading roles in securing convictions in heinous cases involving minor girls.
