Wilson could be wanted man on Tyneside for sporting director role

NOTTINGHAM Forest chief football officer Ross Wilson is said to be a target for Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

Wilson is “in the frame" for the sporting director vacancy at St. James’ Park, reports the Daily Mail.

He is understood to have “had contact” with those in charge of recruiting Newcastle’s new sporting director to replace the departing Paul Mitchell, with interviews due to take place.

It comes as Forest winger Anthony Elanga is also being linked with Newcastle.

Former Rangers sporting director Wilson took up post at the City Ground in April 2023. He was appointed as the Reds moved swiftly to replace the axed Filippo Giraldi.

Since then, Forest have made remarkable progress. Next season will see the club compete in Europe for the first time in three decades.

He was said to be a target for League One Huddersfield Town last month, before rejecting the Terriers.

Wilson spent three-and-a-half years at Rangers.

He also held leadership roles at Southampton, Watford and Falkirk, as well as Huddersfield.
