AN “ASTONISHING” visit made by the Reverend Jesse Jackson to Nottingham has been remembered after the civil rights leader died this week.

The 84-year-old, who worked alongside Martin Luther King Jr on civil rights from the 1960s, died on Tuesday, with tributes pouring in ever since.

He is remembered as the founder of the Rainbow PUSH coalition - which was focused on social justice and civil rights - as well as running twice for US President in the 1980s and mobilising millions of people to register to vote.

The Rev Jackson made a special visit to Nottingham on August 24, 2007, when he addressed a group of about 100 young people at the Council House on issues including education and gun crime.
