Weather warning as Storm Bram blows in from Belgium

RESIDENTS in Nottinghamshire have been warned to stay safe and expect disruption as Storm Benjamin is forecast to cause heavy rain and winds.

A yellow wind warning is in place in the East Midlands, southern England and parts of Wales and Yorkshire for the whole of today.

Strong gusts of up to 65mph are expected from 9am to 11.59pm with a “risk of heavy rain” until midnight.

The Met Office says strong winds may cause disruptions and cancellations to public transport, with a slight chance of damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.

Meanwhile, heavy rains mean there is a slight chance of flooding on roads, causing problems for drivers and making journey times longer.

In France and Belgium, the impending storm has been named “Storm Benjamin”, however, this is likely to be changed to “Storm Bram” as it makes its way across the Channel.
