FLAGS OF THE WORLD FLYING IN CITY STREET

- By JOEL MOORE

'We want people to be proud to be British, but our kingdom isn't just red, white and blue'

“BRITAIN comes in all kinds of colours, cultures, faiths and ethnicities. We all make up this city and make it our homes.”

This is the message behind a display of more than a dozen flags of the world which have been strung up across a street in Nottingham city centre.

The national banners raised above Chaucer Street on Wednesday morning included the Union Flag and the flags of Jamaica, Pakistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Kenya and Iran.

A group of women behind the gesture said they had been placed in response to elements of the Operation Raise the Colours movement, which has seen thousands of Union and St George's Cross flags go up across the UK.
