NO OTHER TREATMENT PROVIDED BEFORE HE DIED
A YOUNG dad who died after being detained by police under the Mental Health Act received no treatment for his mental health disorder, an inquest has heard.
Kaine Regan Fletcher was 26 when he died at the Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) on July 3, 2022, after a prolonged period of police restraint “to prevent him from harming himself”.
Mr Fletcher's cause of death was “the physiological effects of physical exertion combined with the toxic effects of cocaine and other substances”.
An inquest at Nottingham Coro-ners' Court heard that Mr Fletcher had cocaine in his system and had been taking drugs to escape his worries.
Judy Brassington, a community psychiatric nurse at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), gave evidence during a hearing on Tuesday. She was involved in Mr Fletcher’s care from February 17, 2022, until June 16, 2022, but he was not her direct patient.
Mr Fletcher was referred to the service by his GP for his mental health problems, having been diagnosed with polysubstance abuse. Mr Fletcher joined the service with “two major problems - the drug misuse and his mental health”.
